Sex and gender publications in brain health : a mapping review of the Asia-Pacific region

INTRODUCTION: Reporting of sex and gender analysis in medical research has been shown to improve quality of the science and ensures findings are applicable to women and men. There is conflicting evidence on whether efforts by funding agencies and medical journals to encourage reporting of sex and gender analysis has resulted in tangible improvements. This study mapped the inclusion of sex and gend

Fundamental bounds on the performance of monochromatic passive cloaks

Fundamental bounds on the performance of monochromatic scattering-cancellation and field-zeroing cloaks made of prescribed linear passive materials occupying a predefined design region are formulated by projecting field quantities onto a sub-sectional basis and applying quadratically constrained quadratic programming. Formulations are numerically tested revealing key physical trends as well as adv

Optimal Planar Electric Dipole Antennas: Searching for antennas reaching the fundamental bounds on selected metrics

Considerable time is often spent optimizing antennas to meet specific design metrics. Rarely, however, are the resulting antenna designs compared to rigorous physical bounds on those metrics. Here, we study the performance of optimized planar meander line antennas with respect to such bounds. Results show that these simple structures meet the lower bound on the radiation quality factor (Q-factor)

Physical Bounds for Antennas Above a Ground Plane

Physical limitations of antennas above infinite perfect electric conductor (PEC) ground planes are determined using the stored electromagnetic energy. Stored energies are computed with the method of moments (MoM) and the image theory. Convex optimization is used to derive the G/Q ratio and Q-factor for a reference geometry, and the results are compared for different antenna types.

Estimation of Spherical Wave Coefficients from 3D Positioner Channel Measurements

Electromagnetic vector spherical waves have been used recently to model antenna-channel interaction and the available degrees of freedom in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems. However, there are no previous accounts of a method to estimate spherical wave coefficients from channel measurements. One approach for this, using a 3-D positioner, is presented and analyzed in this letter. Measu

Physical bounds and optimal currents on antennas

Physical bounds on the directivity Q-factor quotient and optimal current distributions are determined for antennas of arbitrary shape and size using an optimization formulation. A variational approach offers closed form solutions for small antennas expressed in the polarizability of the antenna structure. Finite sized antennas are solved using Lagrangian parameters in a method of moments formulati

Seamless PID–MPC Hybrid Control

It is common that PID control loops function satisfactorily most of the time, but that they have issues with violating input, state, or output constraints. While MPC solves this problem in principle, it is in practice not straightforward to replace a functioning PID controller with an MPC implementation. This is particularly true for loops that are critical to plant operation, where stops associat

Training pathologists to assess stromal tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes in breast cancer synergises efforts in clinical care and scientific research

A growing body of research supports stromal tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) density in breast cancer to be a robust prognostic and predicive biomarker. The gold standard for stromal TIL density quantitation in breast cancer is pathologist visual assessment using haematoxylin and eosin-stained slides. Artificial intelligence/machine-learning algorithms are in development to automate the stroma

Resisting Democratisation : Arguments Against Female Enfranchisement Among Members of the Swedish Parliament 1866–1918

In this contribution, we analyse the parliamentary minutes debating the issue of women’s voting rights in Sweden from the start of the two-chamber parliament in 1866 until 1918, when women were finally granted voting rights on the same terms as men. We find that most arguments belonged to one of two broad categories: those that were against women’s suffrage as a matter of principle, and those that

Atherosclerotic plaque features relevant to rupture-risk detected by clinical photon-counting CT ex vivo : a proof-of-concept study

Background: To identify subjects with rupture-prone atherosclerotic plaques before thrombotic events occur is an unmet clinical need. Thus, this proof-of-concept study aims to determine which rupture-prone plaque features can be detected using clinically available photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT). Methods: In this retrospective study, advanced atherosclerotic plaques (ex vivo, paraffin-e

Study of risk factors for injuries due to cardiopulmonary resuscitation with special focus on the role of the heart : A machine learning analysis of a prospective registry with multiple sources of information (ReCaPTa Study)

Background: The study of thoracic injuries and biomechanics during CPR requires detailed studies that are very scarce. The role of the heart in CPR biomechanics has not been determined. This study aimed to determine the risk factors importance for serious ribcage damage due to CPR. Methods: Data were collected from a prospective registry of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest between April 2014 and Apr

Does Corporate Conflict Engagement Actions Lead to Public Support? : Finnish Publics’ Perceptions and Intentions During the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict

In the last decade, businesses have played an increasingly significant role in promoting stability, democracy, and human rights, particularly concerning the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which emphasize peace, justice, and strong institutions. Consequently, there has been a greater focus on corporate social responsibility and corporate citizenship. Research has explored business mo
