The Öresund Bridge and Sustainable Transport

Perspectives on Its Impact on the Transport System
Fredrik Pettersson-Löfstedt will present a historical overview of the debates surrounding various proposals for the fixed link and offer reflections on the development of the regional transport system in the 25 years since the Öresund Bridge's inauguration.
While the Öresund Bridge is now an integral part of the regional transport system, its planning and decision-making process was marked by significant conflict. Beyond concerns about the environmental impacts on the marine environment during construction, there was also a debate about the long-term effects on the transport system. Critics feared that the bridge would lead to a substantial increase in road transport.
The presentation will be followed by a discussion with and questions from the participants.
